Urubamba is a small, quiet town an hour bus drive from Cusco.
With
its picturesque valleys and colorful, traditional markets, Urubamba Valley is a very interesting place to visit in order to
get an inside view into the life of the indigenous people.
There are many places of interest
in the valley. In the East part of the valley is Pisac, a tiny little town in the charming part of the Urubamaba Valley. It
is mostly recognized for its colorful and lively Indian market. Mid-valley are the
village of Yucay and the small town of Urubamba, where most of the lodging of the valley is located. At the end of the valley,
at the base of an old Inca town, is Ollantaytambo. This part of the Urubamba Valley has its own impressive set of ruins. It
also where the train station serving the valley stops, which can take you to Machu Pichu.
The sacred Urubamba valley is a nice
place to study Spanish and learn about various ancient and indigenous cultures.
