Mendoza, located at the foot of the Andes, is one of the most visited cities
in the world famous for its history, natural beauty, delicious wines, and famous ski centers.
Founded in the 16th century and reconstructed with a European design after
a devastating earthquake in 1861, this city -with a population of almost 1.5 million- is an ideal place to visit and admire.
Picturesque as few cities in the world, it has wide avenues traversed by small riverbeds and irrigation canals that irrigate
the parks and five main legendary squares, which intermingle with the bustling commercial activity and with various bars and
coffee shops located alongside the wide pavements, under the shadow of different varieties of trees.
Mendoza is also
famous for its high-quality wine. This grape-growing and wine-making culture can be observed in the cellars, which are opened
to tourists, as well as in the city's life: its famous "festival de la vendimia" is held every year the first week of March,
and attracts national and foreign tourists.
In its lakes, just a few kilometers away from the city, different sports
can be practiced as windsurf, fishing, water-ski, or sailing. For those who love adventure, the strong rivers descending from
the Andes mountains are the perfect scenery for rafting and kayaks. And 150 km to the northeast, you find several international
winter resorts to ski and practice other adventure sports.
Mendoza is an ideal place to visit for those who want to study Spanish in
a fun, outdoorsy environment while having the modern niceties of a small city.
